- A measured amount of manufacturer-approved slip agent
Professional installers commonly use an approved, additive-free baby shampoo or a dedicated PPF slip product. However, the exact product and concentration must be compatible with the film.
Do PPF Installers Use Baby Shampoo?
Yes. Some PPF manufacturers specifically identify Johnson’s® Baby Shampoo as an acceptable slip agent for certain products.

Is Baby Oil Used for PPF Installation?
No. Baby oil should not be confused with baby shampoo.
Baby shampoo can act as a water-soluble slip agent when approved by the film manufacturer. Baby oil is an oil-based product that may leave residue on the panel or adhesive interface.
Using baby oil may contribute to:

What Is Hybrid Solution?
Hybrid solution combines limited slip with additional tack. It can provide more positioning control than a tack solution while reducing the excessive movement associated with a full slip solution.

The fact that a product is marketed for PPF does not guarantee compatibility with every Color PPF. Installers should verify compatibility with the exact film before using it on a customer vehicle.
Does the Mixing Ratio Change with Temperature?
It may. Higher panel temperatures can accelerate evaporation and cause the film to tack earlier, while cooler or more humid conditions can increase working time and slow moisture dissipation.

What Can Go Wrong During Color PPF Wet Installation?
Most wet-installation problems result from a mismatch between the product, preparation, solution, environment or technique.
Premature adhesion
If the film begins bonding before alignment is complete, the installer may be using insufficient slip, working on an overly warm panel or following a process that does not match the film.
Repeated lifting and repositioning can introduce contamination or unnecessary stress.
Excessive movement
If the film continues sliding when the installer needs it to hold, there may be excessive solution beneath the film or insufficient control at the anchor point.

Trapped liquid

Contamination
Dust, fibers, fingerprints or residue can become visible once trapped beneath Color PPF. A wet surface does not compensate for inadequate preparation or a contaminated workspace.
Edge lift
Edges can lift when liquid remains near the edge, the surface is not properly prepared or excessive tension pulls the film away from the panel. Drying and securing the edge must be completed according to the film’s instructions.
Stretch distortion
Wet installation provides movement, but it does not make unlimited stretching safe. Excessive or uneven tension can affect color consistency, finish and edge stability.
When a problem appears, installers should record the product, batch, panel, preparation, solution and shop conditions before deciding that the film is defective.
What Happens If You Use the Wrong Installation Method?
Using the wrong method can prevent the adhesive from behaving as intended.
